Learning to Save a Life: CPR Training at Vodafone Ireland

June 2025

Written By: Noelle Burke, HR Director, Vodafone Ireland.

At Vodafone Ireland, continuous growth and learning are at the heart of our culture. Whether it’s mastering the latest technology, building new leadership skills, or learning how to save a life, we believe in giving our people opportunities that empower, inspire, and prepare them for whatever comes next.

That belief came to life recently when more than 100 of our employees took part in Hands for Life, a CPR training programme developed by the Irish Heart Foundation and the National Ambulance Service and delivered onsite by Dalkey Community First Responders (CFR).

The idea was proposed by Emma McMahon, an internal communications employee with years of experience in first responders’ work.  For many employees, it was their first time learning CPR. For others, it was a much-needed refresher. Either way, the experience left a lasting impact. We took a significant step in our personal and professional development by participating in this session. The training empowered us with the knowledge and confidence to act in emergencies, making us better prepared at home and at work.

Learning with Purpose

We know that 7 out of 10 cardiac arrests happen at home. That alone shows just how vital it is to build confidence and capability in responding to emergencies. At Vodafone, our ambition on health and safety is simple and bold: no one gets hurt. That extends beyond the workplace, it’s about looking after each other, our families, our customers and our communities.

This training turned that ambition into action. It was hands-on, human, and full of purpose, a real reflection of what learning at Vodafone is all about.

A Culture Worth Sharing

Following the training, we captured reflections from those who took part. Their voices told a powerful story, about care, confidence, and connection. When we shared a short video of the event on LinkedIn, it didn’t just resonate internally. It caught the attention of others too, including engagement from Ireland’s Minister for Health, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill, a special moment that affirmed the broader impact of this initiative.

Looking Ahead

We’re proud of what we achieved together. And we’re even more excited for what comes next. Initiatives like this help us grow not just as professionals, but as people. And they reaffirm that learning at Vodafone is about so much more than skills, it’s about building confidence, fostering connection, and creating a culture where people care for each other.

We’re grateful to the Irish Heart Foundation and Dalkey CFR for helping us make this happen, and to everyone who took part for embracing the opportunity with such open hearts.

Start your next chapter with purpose.

At Vodafone Ireland, learning isn’t just about skills – it’s about confidence, connection, and care. Whether you’re growing as a leader or learning how to save a life, we’ll support your journey every step of the way.
